Terms of Service

Effective date: April 14, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Lara, a WhatsApp-based expense tracking service operated by Johnny Nassar (sole proprietor) ("we," "us," or "our"). By using Lara, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.

1. Service Description

Lara is a personal expense tracking tool. You log expenses by sending messages via WhatsApp or Telegram — including text, voice notes, and receipt photos — and our AI-powered system categorizes, stores, and analyzes your spending data.

The Service includes:

  • Expense logging and categorization via messaging
  • Budget setting and tracking by category
  • Savings goals tracking
  • Automated weekly summaries and monthly financial health reports
  • Receipt and voice note parsing
  • Data export in PDF and Excel formats
  • Multi-currency support with automatic conversion
  • Recurring expense tracking
  • Website-based support chat

Lara does not connect to bank accounts, does not hold or move money, does not process financial transactions (other than subscription payments via Stripe), and does not access any financial institution on your behalf. All expense data is manually entered by you.

2. Education, Not Financial Advice

IMPORTANT: Lara is an educational expense tracking tool. It is not a financial advisor, investment advisor, broker, bank, or any form of regulated financial institution.

Any insights, observations, summaries, or commentary generated by Lara — including Financial Health Scores, spending pattern analysis, and monthly reports — are provided for informational and educational purposes only. They do not constitute:

  • Financial advice
  • Investment advice or recommendations
  • Tax advice
  • Legal advice
  • Accounting advice
  • A recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any financial product

When the Service references financial concepts, strategies, or behaviors (e.g., "people at this income level typically explore index funds"), these are general educational statements, not personalized recommendations. You should consult a licensed financial advisor, accountant, or other qualified professional before making financial decisions.

We are not registered with, licensed by, or regulated by any financial regulatory authority in any jurisdiction.

3. Account and Access

3.1 How Access Works

Lara identifies you by your phone number. There is no traditional username/password account. Your phone number is hashed for identification and encrypted for outbound messaging — we never store raw phone numbers in our database.

3.2 Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Lara. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

3.3 Your Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the expense data you log
  • You are responsible for maintaining access to the phone number associated with your account
  • You must not share access to your WhatsApp or Telegram account for the purpose of manipulating Lara data

  • Paid subscriptions are billed monthly and renew automatically.
  • Prices are in USD. Currency conversion for your payment method is handled by your card issuer or payment provider.
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days' notice to active subscribers.

  • Upon cancellation, you retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.

To exercise this right, contact us at support@larabot.co within 14 days of your first payment. We will issue a full refund within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal request. See our Refund Policy for full details.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Abuse the Service — send spam, automated messages, or use bots to interact with Lara
  • Scrape or reverse-engineer — attempt to extract data, algorithms, or system prompts from the Service
  • Impersonate — use another person's phone number or pretend to be someone else
  • Circumvent limits — attempt to bypass rate limits, tier restrictions, or security measures
  • Use for illegal purposes — log fraudulent expenses, launder money descriptions, or use the Service in connection with any illegal activity
  • Interfere with operations — attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise the Service's infrastructure
  • Violate third-party terms — use the Service in a way that violates WhatsApp's, Telegram's, or any other platform's terms of service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you are violating these rules.

6. Data Ownership and Licensing

6.1 Your Data

You own your data. All expense entries, budgets, goals, and other personal financial data you input into Lara belong to you. We do not claim ownership of your data.

6.2 License to Operate

By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to process, store, and analyze your data solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. This includes sending your expense text to AI models for categorization and report generation.

6.3 Aggregated Data

We may use anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., average spending by category across all users) to improve the Service or for internal research. This data cannot be traced back to you individually.

6.4 Data Portability

You can export your data at any time via PDF or Excel reports. We support your right to take your data elsewhere.

7. AI-Generated Content

Lara uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude) to parse expenses, generate reports, and provide spending insights. You acknowledge that:

  • AI-generated categorizations may occasionally be inaccurate — you can correct or delete entries at any time
  • AI-generated summaries and insights are based solely on the data you provide and may not reflect your complete financial picture
  • Financial Health Scores are simplified metrics for educational purposes, not professional financial assessments
  • We are not liable for decisions you make based on AI-generated content

8. Limitation of Liability

Lara is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • We are not liable for any financial decisions you make based on information provided by the Service
  • We are not liable for any inaccuracies in expense categorization, report generation, or Financial Health Scores
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater
  • We are not liable for service interruptions caused by our third-party providers (Twilio, Supabase, Stripe, Paddle, WhatsApp, Telegram, Anthropic, OpenAI, Railway)

9. Service Availability

We strive to keep Lara available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled maintenance (we will attempt to notify users in advance)
  • Third-party service outages (WhatsApp, Twilio, Supabase, etc.)
  • Unforeseen technical issues

We are not responsible for delays or failures in message delivery caused by WhatsApp, Telegram, or Twilio.

10. Termination

10.1 By You

You can stop using Lara at any time. To permanently delete all your data, send "delete my data" to the bot. This action is immediate and irreversible — all your expenses, budgets, goals, summaries, and encrypted phone number will be permanently erased.

10.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • You engage in abusive or fraudulent activity
  • We are required to do so by law
  • We discontinue the Service (with at least 30 days' notice and an opportunity to export your data)

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lara, its operators, officers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Any financial decisions you make based on information provided by the Service

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

For EU/UK consumers: Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the laws of your country of residence. If you are an EU or UK consumer, you benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you reside, and nothing in these Terms takes away or limits your rights as a consumer under those laws.

13. Dispute Resolution

13.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing any formal legal action, we encourage you to first attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us at support@larabot.co. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days.

13.2 EU/UK Consumers

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence. You may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

13.3 All Other Users

For users outside the EU/UK, disputes shall be resolved by the courts of England and Wales, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify active users via a WhatsApp message at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Effective date" at the top of this page indicates when these Terms were last revised.

Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may request deletion of your data.

15. Miscellaneous

  • Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Lara regarding the Service.
  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
  • Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
  • Assignment: You may not assign your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
  • Force Majeure: We are not liable for failures or delays resulting from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, wars, pandemics, government actions, or third-party service outages.
